Receiving DMR via RTLSDR

DMR is a hot topic right now amongst the Bangalore Hams. As the name says, DMR(Digital Mobile Radio) is a digital means of communication of voice and data. It uses two-slot TDMA(Time Division Multiple Access), which means one can use two channels within the same frequency.

It is insanely hard to get one’s hands on DMR-capable equipment here (In terms of availability and cost). However, I wanted to have a taste of what it’s like to understand it better. Well, at least by receiving it.

Thankfully a repeater in Bangalore VU2ZO is recently put up with DMR capability and is also uplinked on one of the slots to Brandmeister. Which is like Echolink for DMR.

All I had to do was pipe my SDR audio into DSDPlus(https://www.dsdplus.com/) using VBAudio(https://vb-audio.com/Cable/) and it just worked. But it is super helpful to see the logs to understand the terms used in DMR.
